Mega Sushi (Steveston)

The weather is finally starting to welcome summer in and if you live in Richmond you would know that Steveston is one of the best places to go to for awesome bbq, biking, frozen yogurt and nice walks by the wharf. But guess what?? Now I have new reason for you to go to Steveston if your hungry! Besides the usual spots: Hogshack, Timothy's, Pajo's, Outpost, Steveston Pizza, Kisamos and etc. I found a new Japanese Restaurant that can be considered as the new hidden gem in Steveston.

Mega Sushi is a new Japanese Restaurant that recently opened their second location in Steveston (their first one in Coquitlam). The place may be hard to spot but it's located at the very end of Chatham street near Garry Point Park. When we arrived, there weren't much cars parked outside the restaurant but when we walked in you would be surprised at how much people knew about the place already. We were thinking maybe some of their customers lived near/around Steveston so instead of driving they probably just walked to the restaurant, that's why there weren't as much cars as we thought it would have. Although if your planning to drive, parking is limited but then again street parking is also available. Upon entering the place, I was again surprised.. but this time because of their interior. It was actually pretty modern and designed well! Their menu was also pretty impressive and unique with multiple food options that looks amazing and delicious to eat! They even have funky titles for their food (such as Monkey Brain: Fried Avocados stuffed with crab meat or Lion King Roll: avocado, cucumber, crab meat in a roll with baked salmon, tobiko and cheese on top) which is cool and fun especially for the customers and adventurous eaters. The servers were also quick at their work, very polite and friendly which is great because you don't have to keep waving your hand around and keep looking at them to try and catch their attention! (but then again, maybe it's because they just recently opened.. I can come back another time to see whether the service is still as good as my experience that day). With the ones that I've tried so far, I would highly recommend trying out their Monkey Brain, Salmon Flower, and their Cherry Blossom Roll. I wanted to try out their Big Boss roll, Paradise roll, and Tank roll but we already ordered too much for three people. The description of these rolls sounds really mouth watering good! Hopefully I'll get a chance to try all of them next time when I come back!

So next time when your in Steveston and you had a craving of Japanese food all of a sudden, go give Mega Sushi a try! I hope you'll like it as much as I do!

Jade Seafood Restaurant: Dinner

My Uncle and Auntie decided to treat my family and I out to dinner at Jade Seafood a few nights ago. I haven't had dinner there for a while now but compared to my last visit there, the quality of food is still great, the service that we got was still amazing and parking was surprisingly easy! (maybe because it was a weekday). If you haven't gotten a chance to try out their dinner yet, go check it out! You'll be glad that you did!

Cattle Cafe (Richmond)

When it comes to HK style food, normally I wouldn't choose to eat at Cattle but since my friends invited me out for dinner at Cattle and I'm craving noodles that day, I just agreed to tag along. Cattle Cafe is located right on the other end of Alexandra Road in the same mall as Deer Garden, Haroo, and Michigans. After opening their other sister restaurant Cattle hotpot in Richmond in 2006, they decided to open up another restaurant in 2008 that would allow them to expand and cater to even more customers who loves HK style food. Currently Cattle Cafe has two locations: one in Richmond (Alexandra Rd.) and another in Burnaby (Metrotown). I've been to both Cattle Hotpot and Cattle Cafe, and when it comes to their service their restaurant is more or less the same as most HK style places are so don't expect five star service here. People in Richmond knows that usually parking in the Richmond branch is hell especially during peak eating hours and weekends! (more on the weekends probably and friday night). Since being located in a tiny mall with limited parking spots and on Alexandra Road, the only available parking spots left if not within the mall is usually street parking (which you have to pay for unless you want to carpool there, which is not a bad idea too!). Customer traffic is quite regular in Cattle Cafe so sometimes you have to wait a while before getting a seat (but when I went it was a weekend so I'm not sure if it's as traffic as it is on weekdays). But like I said, I was craving noodles that day so I ordered their noodle soup combo. However, there were a few things that I found that made me dislike their noodle soup: 1. Their fish soup is more fishier than I had in mind (smell and taste wise). 2. I super love spicy food but when I ordered their Szechuan Spicy soup, I was really surprised at how red the whole bowl is. Not really what I was expecting to drink! I still prefer Deer Garden's version better. Even though there are some qualities that I find unlikeable in their noodle soup, I'll admit it's not the worst one that I've tried and I can tell you I've had worse! But if you don't like noodles, their rice meals are pretty good and a better option for me too I think (If I do get a chance to go back next time). If your thinking of getting an appetizer or a snack here at Cattle, their bubble waffles are not a bad choice either.

East is East

East is East is a small restaurant located on Main street that caters Indian and vegetarian dishes. The place is actually pretty cool since the restaurant's interior is decorated with an Arabian like theme. Although the tables and chairs are lower compared to the usual height standard of how a chair and table is, these components do add on to the authenticity and vibe of their restaurant theme. Driving by, it may be hard to spot at first because the place is really small and being located on Main street, parking may be an issue especially during peak eating hours since street parking are the only viable spaces for you to park! 

East is East can also be described as an all you can eat type of place. They give you the option of ordering a la cart or their all you can eat option which is their silk route feast on their menu. The deal with their silk route feast is that the platter or feast is served with their dhal soup, salad, boulani, roti, Afghan and coconut rice, and two of their items on the silk route feast menu (that you can choose). The only catch is that you can't share with anyone else.  The best part of the feast however is that it comes with complimentary refills of the same or different items on their menu and only costing at about $21 I would say that this is not actually a bad deal! They also have different entertainers each night and when we went, it was gypsy jazz night so there were a couple of people playing at the front end of the restaurant while we were eating. With an all you can eat type of place located in a small area, with small tables & chairs, generous portions of food and decorations that makes you think that your out of town, this place is worth checking out! My advice for you guys before going on a feast in East is East is that make sure you save up your appetite because the Silk Route Feast is a platter that can fill you up and let you taste more or less all of their items! Make sure to also plan ahead! Meaning make reservations! This place is really small and can fill up pretty fast! Not only that,  a lot of people usually tend to get their silk route feast so the restaurant's turn over may be slower than normal which may not be a good thing if your the one waiting to be seated. Other than that, I really loved my experience here! It makes you feel like your on an adventure in a different country!
